Care guide
Water
Every 2-6 weeks
Water sparingly - every 2-3 weeks in summer, every 6 weeks in winter. Always let the soil dry out completely before watering again. Overwatering is the number one killer of snake plants.
Light
Any light condition
Incredibly adaptable - grows in low light but thrives in bright indirect light. Can handle a few hours of direct morning sun. Avoid harsh afternoon direct sun.
Humidity
Low · 20–40%
Tolerates low humidity well. No misting needed. Perfect for air-conditioned rooms and offices.
Temperature
15 - 30°C
Very tolerant of a wide temperature range. Avoid temperatures below 10°C and sudden cold draughts.
Fertiliser
1-2 times per year
Feed once in spring and once in summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser. It's a slow grower and doesn't need much feeding.
Soil
Sandy, well-draining mix
Use a cactus or succulent mix for best drainage. Ensure the pot has drainage holes - waterlogged roots will rot.
Pro tips
- 1
If the leaves start to wrinkle or curl inward, it needs water.
- 2
Soft, mushy leaves at the base are a sign of root rot from overwatering.
- 3
Wipe the leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to keep them dust-free and glossy.
- 4
It produces oxygen at night - great for bedrooms.
Important
- Toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Keep away from pets.
