Care guide
Lucky Bamboo
Dracaena sanderiana
Good fortune and greenery, in perfect harmony.

Lucky Bamboo is one of the most popular Feng Shui plants, believed to bring luck, prosperity, and positive energy. Despite its name, it's not actually bamboo - it's a Dracaena. It grows happily in water or soil and needs very little attention.
Care guide
Water
Change water weekly
If growing in water: keep 3-5 cm of water covering the roots at all times. Change the water every week to keep it fresh. Use filtered, distilled, or water left overnight - Lucky Bamboo is sensitive to chlorine in tap water.
Light
Bright indirect light
Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight - it will yellow and scorch the leaves. A spot near a bright window, but not in the sun, is perfect.
Humidity
Medium · 40–60%
Comfortable with average indoor humidity. Misting the leaves occasionally keeps it looking fresh.
Temperature
18 - 26°C
Prefers warm, stable temperatures. Keep away from cold draughts, air conditioners, and temperatures below 15°C.
Fertiliser
Every 4-6 weeks
Add a drop or two of liquid fertiliser to the water every 4-6 weeks. Use very diluted fertiliser - too much will burn the roots.
Soil
Water or well-draining soil
Grows in water (most common) or in a loose, well-draining potting mix. If in soil, water when the top inch is dry.
Pro tips
- 1
Yellow leaves are usually caused by too much direct sun or too much fertiliser.
- 2
Rotate the plant a quarter turn weekly so all sides get equal light.
- 3
The number of stalks is said to carry meaning: 3 for happiness, 5 for wealth, 7 for good health.
- 4
Keep the vase clean - algae growth is the most common problem with water-grown bamboo.
Important
- Toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Keep out of reach of pets.
